On July 10, the draw of the World Chess Cup 2013 was held in the city of Tromso, Norway. The draw result was released 31 days before the opening of the tournament helps players know in advance some information about their rivals and have some time to prepare.

A total of 128 players will compete at the World Chess Cup. The players are paired for knockout competition.

As the world's No. 1 player Magnus Carlsen cannot participate in the tournament because he is so busy preparing for the fight for the world championship against Anand in November, the world No. 2 player Levon Aronian (Armenia) has been promoted to No. 1 seed.

According to the draw result, Vietnam’s top player Le Quang Liem ranks 29th out of 128 players in the tournament.

Liem will face the player who ranks 100th in the tournament - Oliver Barbosa (the Philippines), in round 1. If he wins the game, Liem will confront the winner in the game between Flores - Vallejo Pons. Overcoming this challenge, he may face a very strong competitor - Alexandr Grischuk, who was just overthrown from the championship of the world rapid and blitz chess tournament last month by Liem.

Standing at No. 85, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son will face Russian player who ranks 44th, Vladimir Akopian, in the first round.

Immediately after the draw, Vietnamese players will begin in-depth study of their first rivals and prepare to have good performance in the upcoming competition.
