It will be a single-elimination tournament, with 128 players from around the world competing in eight divisions of 16, with the winner of each division to advance to the quarterfinals.

Quang Liem and Truong Son, who qualified for the World Cup as top two performers of the Zone 3.3 qualifying round held in Ho Chi Minh City last March, are in the same branch of division no. 3.

Liem’s first challenger will be Vasif Durarbayli of Azerbaijan, while Son will take on Robert Kempinski of Poland in the first round.

Total prize money of US$1.6 million will be up for grabs, with the first round’s losers to receive US$6,000 and the overall champion earning up to US$120,000.

Earlier last month, Liem and Son took part in the 2015 Asian Continental Chess Championship in the United Arab Emirates, at which Son claimed the rapid chess title with six points while Liem ended up in fifth position in the same category with 5.5 points.
