When they were hindered by guards, these people threatened the families of guards, with weapons.

Vo Hoang Anh, chief guard of the gold mine, which is located in Tam Lanh commune, Phu Ninh district, said that guards and police officers could not do anything to prevent these people. They attacked guards to rob 15 tons of ore.

This is the second attack of this kind at the Bong Mieu Gold Mine since early June. On the evening of June 3 and early morning of June 4, over 300 illegal gold miners attacked guards to rob dozens of tons of gold ore.

The mine’s general director Tran Ha Tien said if this situation is not solved, the firm may have to state bankruptcy and close the mine.

Tien said that security at the mine has been unstable over the past year. Hundreds of illegal gold miners are operating in an organized manner, despite the presence of mobile police, local police and the gold mine’s guards.

According to Tien, these people used explosives and machines to explore ores illegally. When they were detected by police officers and guards, they brought weapons to the home of policemen and guards to threaten their families.

The Bong Mieu Gold Mine has asked the Quang Nam government to take urgent measures to defend the mine and its staffs.
