Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dinh Van Thu said the project would help train human resources and serve as a rendezvous for international education exchanges among worldwide universities.
He said the project, which had been drawn up by Nguyen Hoang Group, would include international standard education programmes from kindergarten to post-graduation level for 12,000 students.
The HCM City-based group plans to build the project across 41ha in the communes of Binh Duong, Binh Minh and Binh Da in Thang Binh district.
According to officials, construction was set to start in the third quarter this year and open in 2021. It is the second project that the group has developed in central Vietnam.
Construction on the first International Education City started in Quang Ngai province with total investment of 1trillion VND (44 million USD) in March.
The group said it planned to introduce world-class education chains to connect with universities in the UK and the US.
Quang Nam has developed six universities and colleges in engineering, health, vocational training and economics.
The province, in cooperation with the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (National Research University), also plans to build a hi-tech science institute with the aim of developing applications for new technologies in industries related to waste treatment, silicates, pharmaceuticals and automobile production in and around the region.-VNS
