An official from the district's People's Committee said the quake had not caused any damage.

According to Ha Noi-based Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Geophysics, the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 6.8km from the plant's reservoir.

This is the third quake in the district this year.

According to Ho Ngoc Thieu from the district's People's Committee, the hydropower plant was operating safely with one turbine.

In 2012, a series of tremors in the area struck close to the reservoir.

The biggest quake to be recorded so far was 4.7 magnitude on the Richter scale in 2012.
