The opening ceremony of the tournament is scheduled to take place on October 5.
The event is being co-organised by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam, the Asian Pickleball Federation, and the DHL Event Media Joint Stock Company and has attracted the participation of 100 athletes from Malaysia, Japan, China, India, Taiwan (China), and Vietnam.
Players will compete for 12 set of medals in various categories, including men's and women's singles, as well as men's and women’s doubles, from U12 to U16.
Most notably, talented Vietnamese player Sophia Tran Phuong Anh will also take part in the competition. The 16-year-old girl and her partner successfully won two gold medals U18 Mixed Doubles and U19+ Mix Doubles in World Pickleball Championship held in Bali in Indonesia.
Pickleball is a racket or paddle sport in which two players (singles) or four players (doubles) hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball with paddles over a 34-inch-high net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infraction.
At present pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. In Vietnam, pickleball was first played in 2018 and has since become popular in many provinces and cities nationwide.
