The central coast province of Quang Nam will not construct a cable car system connecting the mainland and Cu Lao Cham (Cham Islet) while restricting the number of visitors to this nature reserve, said Dinh Hai, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Hai told a recent press conference in Hanoi on the sixth Quang Nam Heritage Festival that Cu Lao Cham is an ideal hideaway for tourists to Quang Nam Province.

However, the province will pay proper attention to the conservation of the nature reserve apart from developing tourism products.

Cu Lao Cham Nature Reserve in Tan Hiep Commune, Hoi An City comprises one large island and seven smaller ones, about 12 km off the coast of central Vietnam. The largest island, Hon Lao, covers 1,317 hectares.

The forthcoming festival will take place from June 7 to 14 in Tam Ky City, Hoi An City and some other parts of the province.

A string of cultural and sporting activities will be held, including an international chorus contest featuring 1,500 artists from 15 countries, an international kite festival, the World Windsurfing Championships, the Vietnam sailboat race with 200 athletes from 30 countries, an international food festival, a silk and brocade festival, and an exhibition of Vietnam’s seas and islands.
