VietNamNet Bridge – After a series of violently shaking explosions, a lot of Hre ethnic minority people have left their home village in a panic for the mountains, where they think they can avoid the “earth explosion.”

The local residents in Lang Vo hamlet of Son Thuong commune have been experiencing terrible days these days. They fear that the explosions occurred some days ago may occur again, which would kill them. Therefore, they decided to go to the mountains to live in the tents set up temporarily.

However, they also do not feel safe in the tents. Every night, the local residents have to face the fear that they may be killed by the forest rains or buried under the piles of stones caused by the landslide.

“Earth explodes every time when it rains heavily”

On the morning of October 25, when reporters arrived to the Lang Vo hamlet, they could only saw the quiet houses with the doors shut. The reporters were told that some of local residents went to the rice fields, while others stayed in the tents in the forests.

The tents were finally found located in a place, separated with the village by a stream and a rice field. The tents were underslung with no wattle, while the floor was made of tree branches, and the roof made of canvas or sheet metal. Clothes, rice, vegetables, bowls and pots were all gathered on the same places.

Especially, the people brought cattle to the temporary tents to breed. Motorbikes, the most valuable assets of the people, were also parked nearby, close to their owners.

Dinh Van Thuong, one of the people living in the tents, related that at 10 pm of October 22, when it rained like cats and dogs, Thuong and others heard a series of explosions like the thunder strikes from the Pa O mountain.

“We got so panicked that we tried to get out of the home and run into the forest. Those lucky people could bring fowls and ducks with themselves. We ran under the heavy rain,” Thuong said, recalling the terrible night.

When the people ran across a field, they saw a water spout spraying very strongly from the earth, which then made them more frightened.

Dinh Van Tron, also a local resident, said that the explosions were heard on the next days as well, though the explosions sounded quieter.

“Nothing happens when it does not rain. But explosions would occur and water spout would be seen every time when it rains heavily,” Tron said.

Dinh Thi Neo, an old woman, said that there are only a few people staying in the tents in the daytime, while most of local residents leave for their works. However, the tents would be very crowded in the evening, when people flock there to avoid the “earth explosion.” There are at least 20 people staying in every tent.

Secretary of the Son Thuong commune’s party committee Dinh Minh Tam has confirmed the terrible explosions, which have forced local residents to leave their home village.

“Such phenomena have not happened here before,” he said, implying the water spout, the explosions and the mountain fissuring.

“About 100 people are living in the tents, but I am afraid that more people would flock there. They are seriously lacking clean water,” Tam said.

He went on to say that the people have been staying in a very dangerous place and they need to move. However, it’s still unclear where to encourage them to move to. They cannot return to the home village after the terrible explosions.
