VietNamNet Bridge - The authorities of Lao Bao town in the central province of Quang Tri on April 22 detected more than 100 bombs and mortar shells left in the town’s dumping ground by scrap dealers.
The bombs and mortar shells were discovered in Tay Chin quarter of Lao Bao town, Huong Hoa district. The mobile mine disaring team of Quang Tri province successfully handled the 114 bombs and bullets left after the war.
This is the number of munitions left by scrap traders because they could not sell them since they were not defused. They left the munitions at the town’s dumping ground. The bombs and bullets were then detected by the local militia squad.
The munitions include 155mm artillery bullets, 60mm and 120mm mortar shells, bombs; M16 mine, B40, MK118, and others. More than half of the 114 bombs and bullets were not defused; the rest were defused but still contain explosive.
On March 3, the local authorities handled 651 bombs and mortar shells which were left by scrap traders about 200 meters from the dumping ground of Lao Bao Town.
