The first day of the Lunar New Year saw many major streets in HCMC fall quiet with few pedestrians or citizens to be seen on local roads.

Tourist attractions such as the Independence Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral are quiet.
Tran Thao Vy, 23 takes pictures on Ba Son Bridge in Thu Duc City. Vy said that she often exercises in the morning. She feels more excited on the first day of the Lunar New Year because of the fresh air, reduced traffic, and strange scenery.
Sisters Gia Nghien and Hue Nghien in District 5 prepare to go down the street at 5am. "Last night, after watching the fireworks, we went home at 2am, slept a little, then got up early to have a nice day," said Gia Nghien, 16.
