This dog also bit several other dogs in the area.
After the case, the Me Linh Health Centre and the Hanoi Centre for Disease Control (CDC Hanoi) co-operated to prevent a possible rabies outbreak. The agencies held a class on rabies preventive measures and control in Lieu Tri Village.
On June 27, the infected dogs were put down. The six human victims have been provided with rabies vaccines and closely monitored.
Khong Minh Tuan, director of CDC Hanoi, said 23 people in Vietnam had died from rabies in the first quarter of this year.
Over the past five years, the country has witnessed 410 deaths caused by rabies.
Vietnam is committed to achieving the 2030 goal of eliminating human deaths from dog-transmitted rabies by renewing the National Programme on the Control and Elimination of Rabies 2022-2030.
