The first landslide occurred at Bai Gio Tunnel in Deo Ca Pass which links Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen provinces on April 12. More landslides continued happening. Currently, the tunnel is being fixed.
Bai Gio Tunnel is being fixed
Every day, around 12 passenger trains on the Hanoi-Saigon route need to go through the tunnel, transporting a total of 3,500 people. However, due to the disruption, the passengers are carried by coaches between Gia Station in Khanh Hoa to Tuy Hoa Station in Phu Yen.
The tunnel incident has also stalled freight transportation.
Hundreds of cartons of Brotex Ltd. Co. 's fibre have remain at Song Than Station in the southern province of Binh Duong so far.
Some companies have had to hire container trucks to transport goods which are easy to spoil such as farm produce. This has further inflated their costs.
Freight of some 30 train carriages stuck at Song Than Station has been transported to Hanoi by container trucks. Meanwhile, the remaining 50 others still remain to wait for the reopening of Bai Gio Tunnel.
The repair of the tunnel is still underway and this is expected to be finished on April 22.
