Vietnam’s railway sector has announced an expanded operating plan to meet surging travel demand during the upcoming Hung Kings Commemoration Day and Reunification Day - International Workers’ Day holiday period, with additional train services deployed across key routes.

The railway sector has sold 44,200 train tickets for the April 30 - May 1 holiday period.

From April 24 to May 3, the main North-South railway corridor between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will maintain five pairs of Thong Nhat trains daily. Extra services, including SE11 and SE12, will be added during peak days.

Regional routes such as Hanoi - Da Nang, Sai Gon - Nha Trang, Sai Gon - Phan Thiet, Hue - Da Nang, and Hanoi - Vinh will continue operating daily. Several tourism-oriented routes will also see increased frequency, including Sai Gon - Quy Nhon, Sai Gon - Nha Trang, and Hanoi - Dong Hoi.

In northern Vietnam, high service density will be maintained on key lines. The Hanoi - Lao Cai route will run three train pairs per day, while Hanoi - Hai Phong will operate four pairs daily, with additional services during peak periods. The railway sector will also flexibly add more carriages to accommodate rising passenger numbers.

Meanwhile, the Da Lat - Trai Mat tourist line will increase its daily frequency to serve sightseeing demand.

The industry continues to apply preferential fare policies, including a 90% discount for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and revolutionary contributors before 1945; a 30% discount for beneficiaries of social policies and people with severe disabilities; and a 15% discount for passengers aged 60 and above. Children under six can travel free of charge when accompanied by adults.

As of 8:00 am on April 7, the railway sector had sold 44,200 tickets for the April 30 - May 1 holiday period, covering travel dates from April 29 to May 3.
