Many new cafe were set up on the railway section from Tran Phu road-block to Dien Bien Phu Street in Ba Dinh district in Hanoi after the ‘train street’ cafes from Tran Phu to Phung Hung districts in Hoan Kiem district were shut down.
In a petition to municipal authorities, the railway cafes in Hanoi said they would apply measures to ensure safety for travelers if the cafes were allowed to reopen.
After Hoan Kiem district authorities shut down all businesses on the "train street," local coffee shop owners are complaining about the hard times ahead and hoping for a satisfactory solution.
Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh has asked local authorities in Hanoi to relocate residents living along the rail tracks in the city centre.
The owners pledged to comply with regulations on prohibited commercial activities within a minimum distance of 1.5 m from the railway, as well as to draw safety lines and install stainless steel bars on the front of each store and house.
A railway track crossing inside Hanoi with many small booths and rows of houses on two sides is considered a unique feature in the capital city.
