“Hue Rainy Color” group exhibition by three artists, Dang Mau Tuu, Phan Thanh Binh and Le Nhuong, opened at Phuong Mai Gallery in HCMC’s District 1 on Sunday, bringing to town a different color tone and pensive look about rain.

The show displays 35 paintings made of oil on canvas, depicting romantic sceneries, daily activities and intricate emotions of love, hatred, envy and anger. Rain is synonymous with sadness among Saigonese as it causes urban flooding, but the three artists bring different nuances of Hue’s rain.

Le Nhuong said, “Rain often stir various emotions, not only sadness but also happiness, so our works mainly feature brilliant color tones such as green of peace, blue of hope, pink of love, yellow of happiness and white of innocence.” Other bass tones just complete the works and make their bright colors more striking, he added.

For Phan Thanh Binh, rain seems to recall his memories in Time shadow, City shadow, You and Me and Sonata No.23. The pieces consist of pure colors combined with blocks of shape, plump nuance, which make viewers feel the shadow of time has slightly gone by.

To Dang Tuu Mau, the color of rain seems to be that of love presented beautifully in Mimosa at the gate, Love space, Childhood memories and Dalat in fog afternoon. All of colors and strong brushes are painted on canvas with simple but lovely subjects.

Artist Le Nhuong said rain is not only about colors but also echoes of human feelings in his series Convergence and Lithophone. Green of blue colors of raindrops bring pure space and sounds while golden and yellow layers create vaporous, subconscious and brimful thoughts.

The show runs till December 4 at the gallery, 129B Le Thanh Ton Street in HCMC’s District 1.
