The National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting reported that a cold air wave is likely to affect northern localities, including Hanoi capital, starting May 13.

The cold weather which is forecast to last for three days will send daytime temperatures falling considerably to 20-23°C in the northern delta and 15-16°C in mountainous areas.

In particular, the cold air mass is anticipated to cause strong winds in the Gulf of Tonkin. It will also bring heavy rain to the northern delta, especially in the mountainous localities,

Weather experts warned of high risks of multiple natural disasters such as lightning, hailstorms, strong winds, landslides, and flashfloods in mountainous and low-lying areas.

This is one of the rare cold fronts that have been seen in May since 1981. Statistics show the average daily temperature was 19.6°C recorded on May 4, 1981 and 19.8°C on May 5, 1994.
