VietNamNet Bridge – The World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced that the usefulness and quality of Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure in 2014 was ranked 74 amongst 138 countries, compared to 90 in 2012 and 103 in 2010.
A good transportation infrastructure will help improve the image and capabilities of Vietnam.

The information is part of the 2014 Enabling Trade Index (ETI), which the WEF recently released.
Among eight ASEAN member countries selected by the WEF for ratings, Vietnam is at a higher rank than Cambodia (113), Myanmar (138), the Philippines (96) and Laos (91).
The ETI is evaluated biannually, looking at four main modes of transportation (air, sea, road and rail) and the connecting capabilities of aviation and sea routes, to make the evaluation.
According to head of the Department for Management of Traffic Work Construction and Quality Tran Xuan Sanh, the country’s efforts in improving the transportation infrastructure are not only recognised by the WEF, but also positively valued during meetings and exchanges with the World Bank, the Japan International Co-operation Agency and many other development partners.
In 2014, the transportation sector disbursed approximately VND100 trillion (US$4.7 billion) and saw high quality work being completed, meeting requirements of socio-economic development and people’s travel demands, Sanh said.
The evaluation is a good sign for the country’s economy as it not only proves Vietnam’s efforts have been successful, but also helps improve the trust of other countries and international investors in the country’s capabilities, making Vietnam more attractive to investors, economic expert Nguyen Minh Phong said.
