The major goals of the National Assembly and government are creating breakthroughs in the fields of infrastructure development, institutional reform, human resources development; and application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transition and sustainable development, as well as climate change adaptation.

The US businesses and large corporations consider Vietnam a strategic market and want to make long-term commitments and expand their investment portfolios.

The National Assembly chair noted the US government’s commitment on considering recognizing the market economy status for Vietnam. Hue said this has important significance in realizing the vision and strategic orientation of the leaders of the two countries.

Hue said if this is done early, it will be a testament to the confidence of the two countries, creating cooperation in different fields and bringing substantial benefits to businesses and people of the two nations.

Hue hoped that the US corporations will promote their role in providing unbiased information, and contribute to a consensus of the US Administration and Congress on excluding Vietnam from the list of non-market economies.

He said that Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia and the UK have officially recognized Vietnam as a market economy. Vietnam is now a signatory of many free trade agreements with large partners in the world.

President and CEO of USABC Ted Osius, US Ambassador to Vietnam in 2014-2017, noted the commitments by American businesses in realizing the potential of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the US.

Osius said the presence of many visiting US businesses during the trip to Vietnam showed their high interest in seeking opportunities in Vietnam.

He believes that, with the potential to become a logistics and production center in the global supply chain, Vietnam has great promise in energy development.

USABC has made recommendations and sent a report to the US Department of Commerce with evidence about Vietnam's market economy.

Prior to that, on March 12, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, when informing the press about the investment conference, Select USA, scheduled in June, said that 2024 would be a wonderful time for the Vietnam-US relationship.
