VietNamNet Bridge – Nguyen Thi Huyen has set a second record at the third ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore on Sunday.

Huyen won the girls' 400m hurdles in a time of 1min 1.60sec, beating the previous record, set by teammate Le Binh Dinh at the Games in Malaysia last year, by 1:03.07, having set her first record in the girls' 400m with a time of 56.24sec last Saturday.

Dinh, who also took part at the Games, finished second in a time of 1:03.72 while Alfina Tuhupeory from Indonesia came third in 1:03.77.

Le Trong Giang set another record for Viet Nam on Saturday in the boys' 5,000m, winning in a time of 15:35.32, leaving the old 15:54.19 record, set by Indonesian William Lakolo, far behind.

Nguyen Thi Bich Tram added yet another gold to Viet Nam's bag during the girls' 3,000m, which she won in 10:31.87 on Sunday.

Despite winning her second gold, Tram felt disappointed by not beating her own record of 10:14.13, which she set up last year.

Teammate Nguyen Thi Lien finished the race in second place with a time of 10:36.50 with Kitsana Toentuan from Thailand taking the bronze 15sec behind.

Vietnamese athletes also shone in the boys' long jump, with a silver going to Nguyen Van Thuan who managed a jump of 7.02m, in the girls' javelin, with a silver going to Lo Thi Phien and a bronze to Le Thi Cam Dung and in the girls' triple jump, with a bronze going to Nguyen Thi Tuoi.

Do Thi Thu Huyen dominated all-around individual events in the girls' artistic gymnastics division, collecting 47.900 points.

She was followed by Tang Ing Yuen from Malaysia with 47.450 points and Vietnamese team-mate Do Thi Van Anh on 46.650.

Le Thanh Tung won the boys' gold medal with a total score of 79.900 while

Tissanupan Wichianpradit and Jamorn Prommanee, both from Thailand, finished second and third respectively.

Tung managed to palm an additional gold medal in the boys team event with Huyen, grabbing a bronze in the female team division.

The 147-member Vietnamese delegation took part in six events including swimming, table tennis, basketball, track and field, gymnastics and tennis.

After two days of competition, Singapore leads the medal tally with 13 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze medals with Thailand and Malaysia in second and third place. Viet Nam is currently in fourth position with nine gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.

The annual event is the largest of its kind in the region, drawning 1,100 athletes from Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Viet Nam and the host country.

The weeklong event is set to conclude on Friday.
