VietNamNet Bridge – These relics, including the Mausoleum of Mr. and Mrs. Chieu, Lady Hoa Market, Mr. Bon Pagoda, etc. are associated with historical stories about Saigon, the city of over 300 years old.

Mausoleum of Mr. and Mrs. Chieu in Binh Thanh district is also called “Thuong Cong” temple.
This is the tomb of General Le Van Duyet (1764-1832) and his wife. Duyet was a
 general who helped Lord Nguyen Anh - the future Emperor Gia Long - to establish the
Nguyen Dynasty. Since the mausoleum is adjacent to Ba Chieu (Lady Chieu) Market,
many people mistake that this is the mausoleum of Mr. and Mrs. Chieu.







Located in Binh Thanh district, Ba Chieu (Lady Chieu) market was built in 1942 and
upgraded in late 1990s. This is among the oldest markets in HCM City. Chieu
means natural pond. Lady Chieu is a goddess who is worshipped on the bank of a natural pond.







Ong Bon (Mr. Bon) pagoda or Nhi Phu Temple is located on Hai Thuong Lan Ong road,
in District 5. The temple was built in late 17th century by Chinese Vietnamese.
This is the only temple in HCM City that worships Bon Dau Cau, a Chinese eunuch.






Ba Diem (Lady Diem) commune in Hoc Mon district is famous for “18 betel hamlets”.
Lady Diem is one of the five wives of a military commander who built Ong Lanh
(Mr. Lanh) bridge. He established five markets and assigned his five wives to manage
 these markets. Mrs. Diem market is known for good betel.






Ong Lanh (Mr. Lanh) bridge links District 1 and District 4. The bridge is named after
 a military commander named Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, who lived in late 18th and early
 19th century. A road and a market are also named after this general.






Some roads in HCM City are named after “Lady” (Ba in Vietnamese) for instance
Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Ba Hat, Ba Le Chan, etc.






Thi Nghe or Ba Nghe (Lady Nghe) bridge connects district 1 and Binh Thanh district.
The bridge is named after Mrs. Nguyen Thi Khanh, who sponsored the bridge construction.
 Mrs. Khanh’s husband is a bachelor (Nghe in Vietnamese), so the bridge is called
“Thi Nghe”. The bridge was rebuilt in 1970.






Many locations in southern Vietnam worship a lady named Ba Chua Xu. The most
 famous temple is Ba Chua Xu temple in Chau Doc town, An Giang province.






Pham Van Hai or Ong Ta (Mr. Ta) Road, had the consulting room of Doctor Nguyen Van Bi or Mr. Ta.





Ba Hoa (Lady Hoa) market in Tan Binh district. This market is named after a Chinese-origin
 woman named Hoa, who established this market in 1967.
