VietNamNet Bridge – The People's Committee of District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, has proposed to remove number plates of cars that illegally park on the road, without the drivers and to collect car parking charges by the hour.

Cabs park on a prohibited-stop road.

According to the authorities of District 1, previously the district had 20 roads that were allowed by the city government to use part of the roads for parking. These routes are no longer for car parking.

However, many car drivers, especially taxi drivers, still try to stop or park illegally. When the inspection force comes, drivers usually avoid or go elsewhere. So District 1 authorities have proposed to remove number plates in these cases of violation.

A District 1 official said if this proposal is approved, the measure will be widely applied on many roads, in order to restrict cars from rampantly parking on the road.

District 1 authorities also proposed to collect parking charge by the hour on the roads that allow parking.

Accordingly, the district offered to collect VND10,000 ($0.5) for the first two hours for cars under 16 seats and VND10,000 for each subsequent hour; 15,000 in the first two hours for cars of 16-30 seats, VND15,000 for each next hour; VND20,000 in the first two hours for cars with 30 seats or more and VND20,000 for every hour after that.

The current parking fee on the parking permitted roads in HCM City is VND5,000.
