Well-known Belgian singer Axelle Red will perform in Viet Nam from March 18-20 as part of an Asian tour to promote her latest album.

She will perform in Ha Noi on Saturday before her concerts in the southern city of Can Tho on Sunday and in HCM City next Monday, as part of the events of "Week of the Francophonie”.

Her album Rouge Ardent (Red Hot) was inspired by the film Into the Wild written, co-produced and directed by Sean Penn.

She is popular in Francophone countries for her special warm and raucous singing voice and her songs.

In 1998, Axelle Red sang the official hymn, La Cour des Grands  (Do You Mind if I Play), with well-known Senegalese singer and composer Youssou N’Dour in front of a few billion television viewers at the opening ceremony of the Football World Cup in the Stade de France in Paris.

She received the most important music award in France for female artist of the year, the Victoire de la Musique, in 1999.

In 1993 she graduated from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) as a lawyer, the same year her first album Sans Plus Attendre (Do Not Wait Anymore) was released. It immediately resulted in her artistic break in France, Switzerland, Canada and Belgium, where sales alone amounted to more than 200,000.

Her concert in Ha Noi will be held at l’Espace, the French Cultural Centre located at 24 Trang Tien Street.

UNICEF ambassador

Adored by the French public, a committed artist, a humanist activist, she is also an advocate for children and women in her role as a goodwill ambassador of UNICEF Belgium since 1997

On this occasion, the 49- year- old singer will visit UNICEF-supported projects in the rural central province of Ninh Thuan next Tuesday to call for increased attention to disadvantaged children in Viet Nam.
