The objects include tools used by the French colonialists to repress communist prisoners such as leg chains, falchions, and cartridge belts. Everyday items and utensils that belonged to the captives were also found, including spoons, coffee filters, a Chinese chess set, pots, a spool of thread and pieces of a cast iron pan.

CCHMP Deputy Director Tran Van An said the items will tell us a lot about the lives of the patriots who were captured and detained in Hoi An prison between 1960 and 1975.

The Hoi An prison was built on two hectares at Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Son Phong Ward, Hoi An Town, by the French colonialists at the end of the 19th century to confine participants in the patriotic movements in Quang Nam and other central provinces, including patriots such as Phan Chau Trinh, Huynh Thuc Khang and Chau Thuong Van.
