Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Lam told a recent conference that there would be important changes for units in the electronic information sector to both comply with the laws and have opportunities for development.
The common feature in the fields of electronic information websites, domestic social networks, game production and distribution is the downward trend.
The number of businesses remains high, but revenue and profits have decreased.
The Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) reported that by the end of November 2022, over 500 institutions and enterprises were allowed to provide content service on mobile telecommunication networks. However, in January-November 2022, only six certificates were granted, compared to 60 certificates granted in the same period last year. Revenue of enterprises providing information content on mobile telecommunication networks is VND4.4 trillion in 2022, down by 20 percent from 2021.
ABEI said that reasons behind the sharp fall in the list of units registering to provide content service is the saturation in quantity. Meanwhile, revenue of content service providers decreased because the content was not creative enough to attract clients.
In H2/2022, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) joined appropriate agencies to tighten management and inspection over content services on mobile telecommunication as well as telcos.
“Telecom carriers have tightened management over content service teams and they took the initiative in disconnecting with teams with signs of violations. This is also a reason that led to the revenue decrease,” ABEI said.
Regarding online games, the estimated value in 2022 was VND10 trillion, up 30 percent, and the number of workers remains unchanged. However, many firms have complained about difficulties, such as VTC Mobile and Soha Game.
“In 2022, Vietnam’s game firms and the game industry were in big difficulties, in both operation scale and revenue,” a representative of VTC Mobile said.
In 2023, MIC plans to deploy solutions to develop online games, including the issuance of the online game development strategy for 2022-2027. It will encourage the production and distribution of games built by Vietnamese and reduce imported games.
