VietNamNet Bridge – Revolutionary musician Hoang Hiep passed away at his residence in HCM City yesterday afternoon. He was 82.

Hiep had been in deep coma for several days at the Gia Dinh People's Hospital in Binh Thanh District before he was taken home the day before yesterday, Jan 9.

Hiep, born Luu Tran Nghiep, in An Giang Province's Cho Moi District, joined the army in 1945 and started composing three years later. He wrote around 400 songs, and won the Ho Chi Minh Prize in 2000.

Hiep lived in Ha Noi for 20 years, and composed the most successful song about the capital city – Nho Ve Ha Noi (Nostalgia for Ha Noi).

He wrote more than 100 beautiful songs during his stay in Ha Noi, mostly patriotic compositions on resisting the American invaders.

A day prior to his death, the musician was awarded the insignia for the 65th year as a member of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

The funeral ceremony will be held today at HCM City Funeral House on Le Quy Don Street, District 3.
