The tourism sector is tasked to lure 13-15 million foreign visitors this year, 3-5 million higher than last year. However, the increase in the number of visitors to Vietnam has put the sector under pressure to ensure the quality of tourist destinations.

The General Statistics Office reported the number of foreign tourists to Vietnam reached over 6.2 million in the first half of this year, up some 30 percent over the same period last year. The number of visitors from Russia, China and the Republic of Korea which recorded high growths in the previous years continued to rise.

Tourism growth is contributing to national economic development. However, rapid tourism development has put some localities under pressure as they are still struggling to improve infrastructure and human resources.

Given the remarkable increase in the number of tourists in recent time, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has urged local governments to take measures to ensure the quality of tourism services.
