Professor Peter Coloe

Professor Coloe will support RMIT University’s long-term commitment to Vietnam and vision for growth across Asia by connecting all campuses of RMIT globally through a central governance role.

RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President Martin Bean said the University was delighted to appoint someone of Professor Coloe’s caliber and experience.

“Peter has been closely linked with RMIT Vietnam since its inception, as Chair of the Academic Board when the initiative to establish the Vietnam campus was first tabled,” he said.

“His rich history in the region and significant leadership experience makes him the perfect fit to design the future vision for RMIT Vietnam so we can deliver high-quality education for decades to come.”

Professor Coloe has been at RMIT for more than 34 years, with extensive experience across management, learning and teaching, and research.

As a member of the RMIT Council from 1999 to 2008, he contributed to the University’s overall management, strategic, and budgetary planning initiatives. He spent ten years on the Academic Board and RMIT Council, 12 years as Pro Vice-Chancellor (College of Science, Engineering and Health), Head of School (Dean) for seven years, and Head of Department prior to that.

He brings significant experience and expertise from throughout Vietnam, having developed research collaborations with several Vietnamese universities, including the Hanoi University of Science & Technology, the Vietnam Academy of Science & Technology, Nong Lam University Ho Chi Minh City, and the Vietnam National University. Professor Coloe also served as Chair of RMIT Vietnam’s Board in 2013-2015.

His appointment leverages his capacity as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Global Development, for the RMIT Group, to create linkages and alignment between the University’s Australian and Vietnam operations.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Global Development is responsible for delivering academic governance and rigor, strong operational performance, and a highly-engaged workforce no matter where RMIT operates.

“The Chairman role links RMIT Vietnam to wherever we operate - be it Melbourne, Barcelona, Hong Kong, or Singapore - to the benefit of education within Vietnam,” said Mr. Martin Bean.

Professor Coloe said he is excited to play a key role in helping shape the quality of education in Vietnam. “RMIT Vietnam exists to create life-changing experiences for our students, getting them ready for life and work and ready to shape the rapidly-evolving world around them.”
