VietNamNet Bridge – Two Vietnamese and a Thai died yesterday, May 5, after a bus transporting 15 Vietnamese workers collided with a large lorry in Rayong Province, about 140km from Thailand's capital Bangkok.

The Vietnamese victims were from the central province of Ha Tinh, and were on a working assignment in Bangkok, according to a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) correspondent in Thailand.

The group was reported to have hired the bus to take them to the province of Chanthaburi, bordering Cambodia, so that they could extend their visas. Investigators believe that the Thai driver, who died instantly, may have fallen asleep at the wheel. The bus departed at midnight.

The two other dead victims were identified as Phan Cong Dun, 47, and Nguyen Xuan Quoc, 27. Dun was killed on the spot, while Quoc passed away later at the Wang Chan Hospital.

Three other people suffered serious injury and are receiving treatment at the hospital. The cost is being covered by the bus's owner.

Dung's body is expected to be brought to his hometown today and Quoc's body will return as soon as the relevant procedures are complete.

The number of Vietnamese people working in Thailand is on the rise, but the exact figure is unknown as the two countries have not signed an official labour co-operation agreement and so no statistics have been gathered, according to the VNA correspondent.

Most workers enter Thailand on a tourism visa and then work as hired labourers there. The visas expire after 30 days but can usually be extended at areas bordering Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar

Last month another Vietnamese worker also died in an accident while travelling to extend his visa.
