A market at the Cau Gie- Ninh Binh interchange is bustling with buyers and sellers.

The rat hunting season lasts from September 15 through to March of the lunar calendar.

Rat meat is a popular accompaniment with alcohol. It fetches about VND70,000 a kilogram. One local catcher, named Nghia, said he was making VND800,000 and VND1 million a day.

Another local catcher, named Tam, said, “There are about ten rat meat sellers in the area and most buyers are passers-by who use it as gifts. Rat meat tastes really nice and the annual catch keeps down the number of rats and protects our crops.”
