Contestants prepare for the qualifi cation round in the south of Robocon Vietnam 2015 at Rach Mieu Sports Hall in HCMC’s Phu Nhuan District

The rules of the contest require each team to create two robots that play badminton with two other rivals. In each match, a robot duo has to correctly drive six balls to the rivals’ yard to score.

Apart from regulations for a robot design contest, the participating teams have to respect badminton’s rules and use international-standard rackets.

After the qualification rounds, the 32 top teams will enter the finals from May 12 to 17 in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho. The winner will represent Vietnam at ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union) Robocon 2015 in Indonesia in August. All the matches will be broadcast on VTV2 channel of Vietnam Television.

The Toyota Vietnam-sponsored contest aims to create a playground for local students to show their creativity, teamwork and love of science.

Last year, a team from Lac Hong University in Dong Nai Province defeated a Japanese team to win ABU Robocon in India, marking the fourth victory of Vietnam at the regional contest.

Since 2002, Robocon has drawn large numbers of talented students nationwide to participate.
