VietNamNet Bridge – Hearing rumors of a goldsmith’s store selling fake gold, a hundred people who had bought gold there flocked to the shop to sell gold, causing chaos in Thai Hoa town, in Binh Duong province.

On the afternoon of July 3, some rumormongers released the news that Kim Son gold store in Thai Hoa town sold fake gold. Immediately, more than 400 people who had brought gold there flocked to surround the store, asking the owner to re-purchase gold.

The rumor spread very quickly so the stream of people flocking to the gold store rose highly. These people, plus hundreds of curious people, caused congestion in this area.

The store purchased gold worth over VND2 billion ($100,000). By late afternoon, the store was out of cash but hundreds of people, mainly workers from nearby factories, still queued to sell their gold.

Police came to investigate. They randomly tested some samples but did not detect fake gold.

Police are investigating to find out rumormongers.

Kim Son gold store has opened for over ten years and it is a prestigious address. It is suspected that some rivals intentionally released bad rumors against this store.
