Konstantin Sukhoverkhov, Program Director at the Russian Council on International Affairs, has stated that a potential summit between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump could take place in Vietnam.

Tass and newspaper Izvestia reported that the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed readiness to host talks between the Russian and US leaders. However, Moscow remains skeptical of Switzerland’s neutrality, given its support for sanctions against Russia and active collaboration with NATO.

Experts suggest that aside from Switzerland, several countries in Asia, Africa, and South America could also serve as venues for discussions between the two leaders.

Previously, President Putin declared at the Valdai Club meeting that Moscow is prepared to resume comprehensive dialogue with Washington, emphasizing that any initiative must originate from the US. Regarding a potential meeting location, he highlighted the importance of considering certain nations' openly hostile stances toward Russia.

Sukhoverkhov dismissed Hungary as a viable option for hosting talks between Putin and Trump. However, he did not rule out countries in Asia, Africa, or South America as potential hosts.

"It will certainly not be Japan, South Korea, or China. India might be a suitable candidate. However, there is also a significant possibility that the meeting will occur in Vietnam or an African country such as Egypt, South Africa, or even Brazil," he explained.

According to expert Igor Pshenichny, preparations for a presidential summit must first take place at the diplomatic level.
