Professor Alexey Ustinov, one of the world’s foremost experts in quantum technology, has been appointed honorary director of the Quantum Technology Institute under the High-Tech and Innovation Park at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU).
Prof. Ustinov currently leads the Laboratory for Superconducting Quantum Technologies at the National University of Science and Technology (MISiS), Russia. He is widely regarded as a pioneer in superconducting qubit research - a cornerstone of quantum computing technology.
He has also spearheaded and successfully implemented numerous landmark studies on Josephson circuits, quantum solitons, and next-generation superconducting materials, earning high acclaim from the global scientific community.
In 2011, he was awarded Russia’s prestigious Mega Grant, worth €3.5 million, to establish the “Superconducting Metamaterials” laboratory at MISiS. In 2017, he received the Google Faculty Research Award for his work in quantum computing, in addition to multiple other international honors.
His research has significantly shaped the field of macroscopic quantum coherence and driven the development of advanced quantum measurement and telecommunications technologies.
Accepting an invitation from VNU President Le Quan, Prof. Ustinov expressed his honor at being named honorary director of the Quantum Technology Institute. He described the appointment as an exciting opportunity, particularly in light of planned cooperation between MISiS and VNU in quantum technology - a globally prioritized scientific field.
As honorary director, Prof. Ustinov will help shape the institute’s research strategies, advise on the development of key laboratories, and foster global connections with leading quantum research centers.
He also expressed his intention to promote academic collaboration and training programs with VNU, including initiatives for student and researcher exchange, as well as joint projects between the two institutions.
