Currently the victim's body is cryopreserved at the hospital’s funeral home of pending procedures for repatriation.
In the evening of May 15, Epghenhi and his roommate at the Sheraton Nha Trang Hotel, a man named Alexandray, went to the Sailing Club on the beach of Nha Trang for drinking. At the bar, they joined a group of male and female Russian tourists from another hotel.
At around 2 am on May 16, the group left the bar to a nearby empty area to continue drinking. While drinking, Epghenhi and Alexandray fiercely quarreled for their previous conflicts. Alexandray held a broken wine bottle to crash off Epghenhi’s neck aorta.
The victim was immediately brought to Khanh Hoa Hospital for emergency surgery. Some Russian tourists who tried to dissuade Alexandray were also slightly wounded in the arm and leg.
Upon receiving the information of the incident, the victim's family contacted the authorities expressing a desire to move the patient to Russia, but the man was in severe situation and he died later.
After the incident, Alexandray checked out from the hotel.
Local police summoned witnesses (all of them are Russian tourists) to take testimony and also requested border gates to prevent Alexandray from exiting Vietnam.
