VietNamNet Bridge – Korean opera singers Cho Hae ryong and Park Seong do will perform with the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO) and conductor Tran Nhat Minh in a concert at HCM City's Opera House tonight, Sep 19.

The orchestra will open the show by playing the overture from La forza del destino, an Italian opera by Guiseppe Verdi, one of the 19th century's most popular composers.

Tenor Park Seong Do will perform Tu ca nun chiagne and Non ti scordar di me, two popular works for voice and orchestra by Ernesto de Curtis.

He will continue his performance with extracts from famous operas such as Tosca and Turandot by Giacomo Puccini.

Soprano Cho Hae ryong will show off her voice in the Italian folk song Santa Lucia.

Highlights include Gia' nella notte densa from the opera Otello by Giuseppe Verdi, which will be performed by Park and Cho.

Park, one of Korea's talented opera artists, got his master's of music from the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Italy.

He earned top prizes at international competitions such as the Mecenati International Singing Competition, Umberto Giordano International Opera Competition and Mecenati International Song Competition.

He has taken part in many concerts at home and abroad, and worked as a music professor at the Myongji University and Sejong University. He now works for the Chongsin University, and is also the president of the Asia Opera Company.

Cho began her career in Viet Nam in 2008, and is now a soloist and voice coach for the HBSO.

She studied music at the Ewha University in Seoul before moving to Russia's Glinka Music Conservatory for her upper levels.

She won the first prize at the Competition of Romantic Music 2007 in South Korea and certificate of merits at the 2002 Obraztsova International Vocal Competition in Russia.

She has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the Novosibirsk Opera, Kazakhstan National Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras of Busan, Seoul and Chang Won.

The concert will begin at 8pm tonight at the Opera House at 7 Lam Son Square, District 1. Tickets on sale at the theatre's box office cost between VND150,000 and VND250,000 (US$8-13).
