VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City traffic police on Tuesday, October 20, launched a campaign to inspect and seize motorcycles that fail to meet standards at the city’s major coach station of Cho Lon and the area around the main Post Office in District 5.
On the first day of the campaign, the police seized hundreds of vehicles that did not meet technical standards, had no number plates, wrong number plates or unclear number plates, had no hooter, no light and those that deviated from the original design.
Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Trung Phong said these vehicles were mainly used by poor laborers to transport ice or construction materials.
As these vehicles were outdated and their value was very low; the drivers were not afraid of breaking the law. The common violations were carrying goods that are too long and weigh too much, overspeeding, crossing the red light or running on one-way streets, the police said.
This man was stopped by traffic police for carrying bulky goods. He said he had used this motorcycle for over a year.
Such vehicles were seized and the drivers were fined.
The most popular violation is driving motorcycle without lights or motorbikes changed to carry more goods.
Most of the drivers of such vehicles tried to run away after seeing the police.
Sub-standard motorcycles were taken to the police station.
