The Chairman of Samsung Electronics Company on October 1 received a certificate of investment from HCM City leaders at the Samsung Group headquarters in the Republic of Korea. The event was witnessed by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who is paying a visit to RoK.

The project, called Samsung CE Complex (SECC) will be implemented on an area of 70 hectares in Ho Chi Minh City Hi-tech Park, with the aim of researching, developing and manufacturing hi-tech consumer electronic products. It is expected that the project will start in January 2015 and will begin operations in the second quarter of 2016.

The project is divided into two phases. In the first phase the plant will manufacture consumer electronics products such as Smart TVs, LCD TVs, LED and in the second phase it will produce other household products.

This is the latest project of the Korean electronics group in Vietnam and also the continuation of the project of Samsung Vina in the past, but with a larger scale, aimed at the regional and global market.

Samsung will also establish a Center for Research and Development (R&D) to study software and application programs for the electronics product line of this project.

This is the second project with investment capital of over a billion dollars of Samsung licensed in Vietnam so far this year, following the high resolution screen project in Bac Ninh province of Samsung Display.

It is also the second project with capital of over a billion dollars in the HCM City Hi-tech Park, after a billion dollar project of Intel Corporation licensed in 2006.
