Traditionally, Samsung's foldable portfolio has consisted of two product families: the Galaxy Z Fold, which features a book-style horizontal folding design, and the Galaxy Z Flip, which uses a vertically folding clamshell form factor.

The current flagship foldable available on the market is the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung's most premium foldable smartphone to date.

According to leaked information, Samsung plans to make a small but notable change with the next-generation lineup. Alongside the existing book-style foldable, the company is expected to introduce a new device that features a shorter body but a wider display than the standard Galaxy Z Fold design.

The new model is reportedly intended to compete directly with Apple's long-rumoured foldable smartphone, which has been widely referred to in rumours as the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra.

Based on the leaks, the new foldable is expected to carry the Galaxy Z Fold 8 name. It is said to feature a dual rear-camera system led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a 4,800mAh battery.

Meanwhile, Samsung's existing premium foldable is reportedly set to be renamed the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, becoming the flagship model in the series. The device is expected to include a 200-megapixel main camera, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset and a 5,000mAh battery.

As of now, Samsung has not officially confirmed the reported product names or specifications.
