VietNamNet Bridge – An 18-year-old girl died at Thanh Nhan Hospital in Hanoi on Monday after a 10-day fast.
Family members said the girl did not eat anything, and only drank water in order to lose weight.
Doctors said the girl was hospitalized at 8.30am on July 7 with no pulse or blood pressure. She died in the afternoon on the same day.
According to the family, the girl was more than 80kg in weight, 1m60 tall. She heard of a weight-losing method called "12 days of body purification," which was said to not have adverse impacts on health. Her parents, however, objected to the fast.
She lost 4kg but finally died on July 7 of electrolyte disorders and micronutrient deficiency.
Recently, netizens have shared the method of "purifying the body in 12 days" to lose weight. People do not eat any food for 12 days. They drink four liters of sugar lemon water a day (one liter of boiled water mixed with 3-6 lemons and some sugar).
Many people have used this method and lost nearly 10kg after 12 days. But many others said they felt dizzy or fainted.
The death of the 18-year-old was the first reported case using this method.
