Schools across Vietnam will simultaneously hold opening ceremonies for the 2026-2027 academic year on September 5.

Under a plan issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, the opening ceremony will take place nationwide from 8am to 8:45am on September 5.

Each province and city will designate a main venue, selected by the locality and presided over by local leaders.

In addition to these main venues, the ministry will select a number of educational institutions representing different levels of education and training, types of schools and regions to participate in the program.

Other educational institutions will join the nationwide program online or follow it on television, depending on their local circumstances.

The ministry has asked schools to ensure the ceremonies are formal, safe, practical, cost-effective and suited to actual conditions.

Programs should be concise and educationally meaningful, while creating a positive and memorable experience for students, teachers and the wider community.

Educational institutions have been instructed not to prolong the formal ceremony and instead prioritize accessible, practical activities appropriate to students’ ages, particularly for preschool children and students entering a new level of education.

Before the nationwide program begins, schools may organize welcome activities for new students, musical performances and other events appropriate to their education level and circumstances.

After 8:45am, schools can continue with their own activities marking the beginning of the academic year according to their individual plans.

Also on September 5, eligible multi-level boarding schools in communes along Vietnam’s land borders will hold ceremonies to inaugurate, hand over and officially put new facilities into operation.

Local inauguration venues will be connected online to the central venue at Muong Khuong Boarding School in Lao Cai Province.

The Ministry of Education and Training has required these inauguration ceremonies to be conducted in a formal, safe, practical, economical and effective manner. Local authorities must not hold inauguration ceremonies for projects that have not met the necessary requirements under regulations.

The ministry said holding school opening ceremonies simultaneously nationwide, together with the inauguration of multi-level boarding schools in land-border communes, is intended to create an upbeat atmosphere as students and teachers enter the new academic year.

The initiative also reflects the attention given by the Party and State to education and training, particularly in ethnic minority, mountainous, border and island communities, according to the ministry.
