The move came after the local authority was informed about the appearance of the red streak in the port belonging to the Vung Ang Economic Zone, said Vo Ta Dinh, director of the provincial Natural Resources and Environment Department, the Tuoi tre (Youth) online newspaper reported.
Previously, another reddish streak also appeared in the port on January 19. The results of the analysis conducted by the institute showed that the reddish water was caused by the phenomenon of jellyfish breeding. Additionally, waste discharged from the floating restaurants and houses nearby was also blamed for the red streak.
The Taiwanese Hung Nghiep Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company is located in the Vung Ang Economic Zone. Last June, the company’s leaders had to apologise for triggering massive fish deaths in four central provinces.
