At the sixth minute, Nguyen Thi Van attempted a beautiful swerve shot, which unfortunately hit the crossbar. Two minutes later, Tuyet Dung shot from outside the box, but Thailand’s keeper saved it.
Taneekarn of Thailand headed the ball in from close range at the 51st minute, but she is flagged for offside and the goal not recognised.

In second minute of the extra time, forward Pham Hai Yen, who replaced midfielder Nguyen Thi Van in the second half, headed in the goal from close range after an indecisive clearance of Vietnam's freekick by a Thailand's player.
The only goal in the extra time was enough for Vietnam's women to defend their gold medal.
In the previous tournament, Vietnam won gold while Thailand took silver.
PM congratulates women’s football team on SEA Games success
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc lavished his praise on the national women’s football team after their resounding success in the final of the SEA Games against Thailand in Manila, the Philippines on December 8.
He called for all economic sectors to contribute to buying each player a top-end motorbike to reward their efforts.
An hour after the team’s victory, several patrons had already committed to present some 5 billion VND (215,000 USD) for the players.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien also decided to award the team 1 billion VND for successfully defending their SEA Games title for the sixth time.
The team also received congratulations and a bonus of 100 million VND from President of the Vietnam Women’s Union Nguyen Thi Thu Ha.
The Vietnamese players defeated rivals Thailand 1-0 with the only goal scored by Hai Yen at the start of extra time, and it was enough for the team to defend their gold medal.
At the previous tournament, Vietnam won gold while Thailand took silver.
Vietnam women’s football team awarded billions after winning SEA Games
The Vietnamese women's football team was given over VND8bn (USD344,000) after winning the 30th Southeast Asian Games tournament against Thailand.
They were given VND1bn from Vietnam Football Federation and VND2bn from the head of the women’s team at the Vietnam Football Federation Pham Thanh Hung. An anonymous businessperson gave the team VND1bn. Many businesses and individuals also gave the team hundreds of millions of VND.
For the final match, the team were awarded VND4bn and a total of VND8bn has been awarded to the team since the start of the tournament. They were awarded VND4bn after winning the semi-final match.
This is the highest bonuses for the women’s team yet.
It is predicted that more gifts will come from individuals and businesses for the team's achievements at the SEA Games.
The Vietnamese women’s team beat Thailand on December 8 in The Philippines to secure the title. In the previous tournament, Vietnam also won gold with Thailand as runners-up.Dtinews/VNA
