VietNamNet Bridge – Hiep Thanh Seafood Joint Stock Company has commissioned a line to produce diesel oil from tra fish.

Ho Bao Quoc, deputy office manager of Hiep Thanh, said fish scraps such as heads, entrails, bones and fat would be collected to produce bio-diesel to fuel power generators of the plant’s freezing and heating systems.

The project has been executed by VTT Technical Research Center of Finland within the Enerfish program funded by the European Commission to make use of tra fish scraps to make bio-diesel.

According to VTT, catfish waste materials like fat account for 10% of a fish’s weight. If the volume of fish materials is over one million tons per year, the Mekong Delta will have over tons 100,000 tons of fish fat.
