Ho Chi Minh City Command said its recovery team excavated more than 900 cubic meters of soil on Aug. 24, uncovering 26 additional sets of remains believed to belong to fallen soldiers, along with 10 sets of associated artifacts, in a second burial trench at Le Thi Rieng Park.

On the evening of Aug. 24, Ho Chi Minh City Command released the latest results of the search and recovery operation for war martyrs’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park in Hoa Hung Ward.
According to the recovery team, authorities continued expanding the search area around the second burial trench in Zone B, excavating more than 900 cubic meters of soil to reach locations suspected of containing remains.
During the operation, soldiers from Team K74 discovered and recovered 26 sets of remains believed to belong to fallen soldiers, together with 10 sets of associated artifacts.
Since June 23, teams working at Le Thi Rieng Park have discovered and recovered 481 sets of war martyrs’ remains and 250 sets of associated artifacts.
Of the total, 448 sets of remains were found individually, while the remaining 33 were recovered from eight locations within mass graves in Zones A and B.
Ho Chi Minh City Command said it would continue directing forces to expand the search area and coordinate with specialized agencies, witnesses and relevant units in the ongoing effort to locate and recover the remains of fallen soldiers.
Key milestones in the search for war martyrs’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park
May 28: Ho Chi Minh City Command issued an appeal for witnesses who appeared in a photograph taken during the burial of soldiers sacrificed on Feb. 12, 1968.
June 8: National Steering Committee 515 held a workshop to verify and reach conclusions on information concerning a mass grave at the former Chi Hoa - Cho Quan cemetery, now part of Le Thi Rieng Park.
June 23: Authorities began exploratory excavation and discovered multiple sets of war martyrs’ remains behind the memorial dedicated to heroes and martyrs of the 1968 Tet General Offensive and Uprising.
July 6: The formal search and recovery operation for war martyrs’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park began.
To date: A total of 481 sets of war martyrs’ remains and 250 sets of associated artifacts have been recovered.
