The Ministry is also evaluating conditions of the Hanoi-based Vietnam-Germany Hospital. The main difficulty of this hospital is the human problems.

In 2008, the Government issued a decree on gender redefining. In 2010, the Ministry of Health issued a circular guiding the implementation of the decree on gender redefining. Since then no hospital has applied for the license to carrying out the gender redefining services.

Early this year, a transgender teacher in Binh Phuoc faced troubles since she got the gender redefining certificate from a clinic that is not licensed to offer this service.

Vietnam law prohibits medical interventions for transgender people who have completed gender. However, those with birth defects of gender or incomplete gender are allowed to redefine gender.
