In the middle of March, rangers from the forest protection station in Quang Ninh District found dozens of trees measuring between 40 and 120cm in diameter had been illegally chopped down, while a stash of timber was hidden in nearby bushes, vietnamplus.vn reported.

The deforestation reportedly happened in Zone 329, which is managed by Long Dai Forest Industrial One Member Limited Company.

The local forest protection station was required to promptly complete a dossier on the case so it can be transferred to provincial police for prosecution.

On Sunday, the provincial inspection team checked the scene of illegal logging in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in Bo Trach District.

The volume of timber cut down in the park was estimated at more than 100 cubic metres in Thuong Trach Commune.

The provincial forest protection sub-department proposed the Provincial People’s Committee to strictly handle the responsibility of leaders of forest management and protection agencies, border forces and local authorities.

The sub-department also asked the police to prosecute the case.
