The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism (MoCST) announced a list of seven new national intangible cultural heritages.  

The new national intangible cultural heritages originated from Thai Binh, Lao Cai, Phu Yen, Ha Giang and Thanh Hoa provinces and Ha Noi.

1. Dong Bang temple festival in Thai Binh

The festival honors King Tran Hung Dao, the God of water (Bat Hai Dong Dinh) in Dao Dong village, An Le commune, Quynh Phu district, Thai Binh province. It takes place from the 20th to 26th of the eighth month of the lunar calendar with various activities such as boat racing, traditional games,  and Vietnamese popular opera singing.  

2. Thuong temple festival in Lao Cai

The festival commemorates Tran Quoc Tuan, who played a vital role in the development of the Tran dynasty and is now honored as a national saint. A series of cultural and sports activities were held during the festival along with a display of agricultural products and handicrafts in Lao Cai city.

3. Fish-praying festival in Phu Yen

The festival is the need for the spiritual life of  fishermen, wishing for good weather and peaceful sea, catching lots of fish, happy and abundant life. This is a traditional folk festival preserved and promoted in southern Central Viet Nam in general and Phu Yen province in particular. The festival is the performance of the folk games like Ba Trao singing (songs for fishing), boat racing, basket-boat rowing.  

4. Fish festival of the Tay ethnic group in Ha Giang

The event takes place on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. The festival welcomes a new crop and wishes for a successful crop in Yen Minh district, Ha Giang province.

5.  Forest God Worship ceremony in Ha Giang

The forest god worship ritual of the Nung ethnic people in Ha Giang is held on the first Dragon day of February and July in the lunar calendar every year. It represents benevolence, expressing the civilized behavior of the people here with the environment.

6. Ai Lao singing and dance in Ha Noi

Ai Lao singing and dance is a traditional ritual only seen at the Giong festival in Phu Dong village, Gia Lam district, Ha Noi. Ai Lao, one of the rare remaining ancient art forms of Vietnam, has spiritual, historical and cultural significance that needs to be preserved and promoted. According to legends and stories by village elders, the establishment of the Ai Lao singing and dance troupe was associated with the legend of Saint Giong.

7. Xuan Pha dance in Thanh Hoa

Xuan Pha dance is held on the 10th and 12th days of the second month of the lunar calendar in Xuan Pha Village, Tho Xuan District, in Thanh Hoa province.  Xuan Pha is a traditional dance with many elements, which has been handed down through many generations. One part of the dance consists of rituals worshipping the village god, Dai Hai Long Vuong, a meritorious official of the Dinh and Tien Le dynasties in the 10th century.

The new heritages will receive State budget expenditure for restoration and embellishment.
