VietNamNet Bridge – Nine teams from seven engineering and industry universities of Vietnam have put their names down for the energy-efficiency vehicle competition Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2015 slated to take place in Manila, the Philippines from February 26 to March 1.

The teams of Vietnam are from University of Transport and Communications, Hanoi University of Industry, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, HCMC University of Technology and Education, Central Vocational College of Transport III, HCMC University of Industry and Lac Hong University. They together with almost 100 teams from 17 countries and territories will vie for titles of the Prototype and Urban Concept vehicle categories.

Tran Hong Van, general manager of Shell Vietnam, said the competition is aimed to inspire student innovation and develop future technologies.

“We are proud to have become a part of shaping the energy future through facilitating innovative minds of the youth and managing talents is always at our core priority,” Van said in a statement.

Hanoi University of Science and Technology was the first runner-up at the Prototype category at the Shell Eco-marathon 2012 when its vehicle could run over 455 kilometers with only one liter of fuel. This is the highest result Vietnam has achieved at the competition so far.

This year, Shell also marks the 30th Shell Eco-marathon with continuous innovative thinking. After 30 years the Shell Eco-marathon was launched, it has seen radical changes in car design and the use of computer software to model and analyze the vehicles which have resulted in major fuel efficiency improvements over the years.
