L’Espace (24 Trang Tien Street) will bring to Hanoian audiences five French movies while the TPD (51 Tran Hung Dao Street) will present an American film entitled “Primal Fear”.

“Valérian et la cité des mille planètes” (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets) (France, 2017, 138 mins) will be screened on August 12, 6pm. The movie was directed by Luc Besson, starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Clive Owen.

In the 28th century, Valérian and Laureline formed a team of spatio-temporal agents charged with maintaining order in human territories. Mandated by the Minister of Defense, the duo set off on a mission on the extraordinary intergalactic city Alpha – a constantly expanding metropolis where species from all over the world converged over the centuries to share their knowledge and culture. A mystery hides in the heart of Alpha, an obscure force that threatens the peaceful existence of the City of the Thousand Planets. Valérian and Laureline will have to start a race against the clock to identify the terrible threat and not only save Alpha, but the future of the universe.

The second French movie - “Un Indien dans la Ville” (France, 1994, 89’) will come on August 13, 3.30pm.

This is a humorous and touching family comedy about the kind-hearted stock broker Steph living in Paris, who discovers that he has a son, Mimi-Siku, living in the heart of the Venezuelan Rain forest. Steph brings Mimi-Siku to Paris where all the fun begins… How do you sell soya beans on an ever decreasing market, stay out of the clutches of the Latvian Mafia and try to keep a hold on your out of control son who is climbing up the Eiffel Tower on the outside, grilling expensive and exotic pet fish on the terrace of your apartment? The relationship between Steph and Mimi-Siku grows very quickly to become one of trust and real friendship and through the eyes of his son, Steph discovers life’s true values.

The third French film “Pas son Genre” (Not My Type)  will be screened on August 11 at 8pm and August 13 at 6pm.

This is the romance between a small-town hairdresser (whose idol is Jennifer Aniston) and a Parisian philosophy professor. It a sweet chocolate for French dramedy lovers.

After dealing with violence in its different facets in his last five feature films, director Lucas Belvaux puts here on stage a love story in which the socio-cultural background divides between a teacher of philosophy and a Parisian hairdresser in the province of Arras. The heroine is a Belgian famous actress – Emilie Dequenne. The actress born in 1981 won two consecutive two “Female Actor” awards at Cannes film festival in 1999 and in 2012 for her roles in the film “Rosetta” and “Our Children”. In the new film, the star plays with the French comedy actor – Loïc Corbery.

The French short film “Demain” will be presented on August 12, 2pm as part of the film screening and conference called “Tomorrow starts from today”, which will have the participation of two speakers: Mr. Le Viet Ha, deputy editor of the Urban Planning magazine and Mr. Dam Thanh Tung, head of “Lotus in the City” group.

 “Demain“, edited and directed by Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent. After its appearance in France last year, the film attracted more than one million spectators and has become the subject of many debates in several countries. With their team, Cyril Dion and Mélanie Laurent went to 10 countries where changes in different sectors (agriculture, energy, economy, democracy, education) are essential for the development of the countries.

“Les As de la Jungle à la Rescousse” (Jungle Bunch) (France, 2017, 97 mins) will be screened on August 30.

The Jungle Bunch to the Rescue is a French-American-British CGI animated television series. It was created by Jean-François Tosti, David Alaux, Eric Tosti and produced by TAT Productions and Master Films. The series is about Maurice, a penguin that thinks he is a tiger, and his misfit friends. Together, they are the defenders of the jungle. The series' 1st season premiered on December 29, 2013 in France and the second season aired on November 2, 2015. The Jungle Bunch to the rescue won an International Emmy Award in Category Kids: Animation in 2014 and is aired in more than 180 territories. 

In “Jungle Bunch 2017”, Maurice may look like a penguin - but he's a real tiger inside! Raised by a tigress, he's the clumsiest Kung-Fu master ever. Along with his friends, The Jungle Bunch, he intends to maintain order and justice in the jungle, as his mother did before him. But Igor, an evil koala, wants to destroy the jungle once and for all, helped by his army of silly baboons... 

The last French movie - “Il était une forêt” (Once upon a Forest, 2013, 78’) – will be presented on August 18 and 20.

“Il était une forêt” offers an exceptional immersion in this wild world that has remained in its original state, in perfect balance, where each organism – from the smallest to the largest and all connected to each other – plays an essential part.

An American movie - Primal Fear (1996) directed by Gregory Hoblit – will be screened on August 11, during the Best Plot Twists movie month at the TPD.

Primal Fear is a neo-noir crime-thriller film, based on William Diehl’s 1993 novel of the same name. The film tells the story of a Chicago defense attorney who believes his altar boy client is not guilty of murdering an influential Catholic Archbishop.

Primal Fear was a box office success and earned mostly positive reviews, with Edward Norton making a strong showing in his film debut. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture.
