VietNamNet Bridge – A group of researchers from the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute and four fishermen on July 11, caught a shark in the waters between Hon Ngang and Hon Kho islands in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province.


The shark is nearly 40kg in weight, over 1m long, with white strips on its body.

Nguyen Phi Uy Vu, from the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute, said that this was the institute’s sixth surveillance trip in the research project on cruel fish that attack humans in Quy Nhon, and the first shark was seized by the institute in cooperation with fishermen since sharks appeared in Quy Nhon since July 2009.

The project has been kicked off in August 2010 and five journeys to catch sharks failed.

The shark will be the specimen for research at the Institute.


From July 2009 to May 2010, three attacks on tourists and local residents by sharks were recorded, with six injured victims.

Local fishermen caught five sharks in Quy Nhon, including one of over 500kg.

In the latest new, another shark was caught by the Nha Trang Oceanography Institute’s experts and fishermen in the sea of Quy Nhon this morning, July 13. The shark is 6.5kg in weight, 6.9m long, also with white strips on its body. This is the sixth shark caught in Quy Nhon since late 2009.
